People, Pets and Parking are the three things that often get discussed about at meetings. These three topics are a frustration for many, because they are things that cannot be controlled. We are unable to control others behaviours, like where they park, how much noise they make, if their dog barks…. the list goes on!
At times, people aren’t aware that they are creating a nusiance, and other times they are not worried that their behaviour is creating an issue in the Body Corporate.
Here are a couple of ways to assist in resolving the issues if you are a committee member
Step 1 – Understand the issue and why it is a nuisance.
This may be causing an issue for an owner or several owners. If the issue can be identified, then something can be done about it.
Step 2 – Talk to the other party
There are times that the person involved with the nuisance isn’t aware that this may be causing an issue, if appropriate, have someone talk the other party to let then know that it is causing a nuisance.
Step 3 – Raise it at a meeting
If the behaviour has not improved, then take it to the next committee meeting to discuss. If needed, a course of action may need to be agreed upon.*
Step 4 – Whats next
Should the behaviour continue, then there are avenues that the Body Corporate can take to formally request the owner/resident to cease their behaviour.*
* Remember to check to see if the exhibited behaviour is in contravention to a By-law before acting against the resident/owner.
